As Durable As It Is PowerfulAlthough today's diesel engines are extremely advanced, diesels are not a new technology. In 1892, Rudolf Diesel obtained the German patent for diesel engines. Gasoline engines of that time were very inefficient and Rudolf intended to produce a more economical combustion engine.Today's advanced diesels are among the most efficient combustion engines. Chrysler's own 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 were the first Chrysler LLC vehicles to meet the stringent U.S. 2010 truck emissions standards and thanks to their durable yet powerful 6.7-litre Cummins® turbo diesel I-6 engine, they make our new trucks significantly cleaner than any other pickup truck on the market. In fact, Dodge has reduced the amount of harmful emissions from its engines by 90-percent in the past decade. Another Chrysler advancement in the pickup tuck market was the 2007 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty. This truck engine uses a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to greatly reduce particulate matter emissions and an absorber catalyst to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx). Chrysler LLC trucks also use a cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system combined with a uniquely designed piston combustion bowl and a high-flow, electronically-controlled Variable Geometry Turbocharger that matches boost pressure with the engine's performance to reduce emissions and improve driveability. This emissions system is designed for a U.S. government-certified 193,000 kilometres (120,000 miles). Chrysler LLC engines that include this innovative technology include:
