Smooth Riding

No matter what road you travel, Chrysler believes that your vehicle shouldn’t take a beating. With technology like multi link coil spring rear suspension, front axle disconnect and an active transfer case our vehicles create one smooth ride.

Multi link Coil Spring Rear Suspension

It’s no surprise the 2010 Ram 1500 has a smoother ride than Ford or GMC.(1) By replacing the heavy, friction prone leaf springs with the multi-coil spring suspension, we reduced the friction and weight without reducing cargo capacity. You also get increased ride quality, comfort and improved handling. What you don’t get is that annoying truck “hop” when making a tight turn. The balanced front and rear spring rates help maintain a level ride when fully loaded. Shock absorbers provide more resistance during jounce (upward wheel motion) than rebound (downward wheel motion). That’s truck-speak for delivering an absorbent feel. The Ram 1500 delivers a consistently smooth ride on the most uneven terrain and smooth pavement.

Hydroformed Frame

Ram’s partially hydroformed frame is fully boxed and made of advanced high-strength steel for exceptional performance and torsional rigidity, as well as reduced Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH). To further compliment this strong design, the front frame employs front frame rail tips with patented curl inhibitors designed to absorb frontal impacts. Because of these features Ram earned a five-star frontal impact rating.

Active Transfer Case and Front-axle Disconnect

Experience Canada’s inimitable active transfer case and front-axle disconnect. Chrysler’s unique system seamlessly transitions between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive with no driver intervention. When all-wheel-drive is not required, the system automatically disconnects the front axle and opens the transfer case from the drivetrain to reduce friction and rotational mass. The system provides traction, performance, safety and an improvement in fuel economy.

Chrysler’s combined active transfer case and front axle disconnect system is available on Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger.

Class-Exclusive Multi-Link Coil Rear Suspension – This innovative rear suspension is engineered to deliver more comfort and capability with confident control on any driving surface. (1)
